Pavel Durov says Telegram will begin integrating a native Gram crypto wallet into all of its apps this summer, promising commission-free transfers for what he says will be more than 1 billion users.

The new wallet is expected to be non-custodial, meaning users will keep control of their own private keys and Telegram will not have access to their assets. The company has not yet said exactly when the wallet will launch, which coins it will support, or what technical limits may apply.

Telegram already offers Wallet, but that service is a separate third-party product integrated into the messenger under contract. Gram is being positioned as Telegram’s own built-in solution rather than an external add-on, making the announcement look like an effort to take back the role of primary crypto tool inside the app.

This is not Telegram’s first push into crypto. The company has spent years trying to weave digital assets into its ecosystem, and around TON and related services it has repeatedly returned to the idea of mass-market payments. The Gram name itself points back to Telegram’s earlier blockchain project, when the company was promoting a native token.

The broader idea is not new: major platforms already have built-in payments, and Web3 teams have long tried to turn chats into wallets so users do not need to switch to a separate app. The harder part is behavior. Sending a transfer may be simple, but getting millions of people to manage their own keys without getting lost is a much bigger test.

There is also a regulatory backdrop. In May, Wallet restricted transactions with seven crypto exchanges sanctioned by the UK, a reminder that crypto services inside mass-market messaging apps can quickly run into compliance pressure. If Gram does reach a wide audience, Telegram will have to scale the product while navigating rules across multiple jurisdictions.

The real test is straightforward: the new wallet has to feel as familiar as sending a message. If Telegram does launch it this summer, the company will have a chance to bring crypto transfers, messaging, and its blockchain ecosystem into a single interface.
