Apple is facing a proposed class action lawsuit over a reported flaw in Hide My Email, a feature designed to shield a user’s real email address. The complaint alleges that Apple violated California’s false advertising law and other consumer protection statutes by offering a privacy feature that did not work as advertised.

According to MacRumors, a security researcher disclosed the apparent Hide My Email vulnerability to Apple in June 2025. The reported issue could expose a user’s real email address, but there are no known cases of the flaw being exploited.

The steps required to trigger the issue have not been made public, a precaution meant to avoid abuse while the vulnerability remains sensitive. The lawsuit argues that Apple nonetheless continued marketing the feature despite knowing about the reported weakness.

The filing is notable because it targets one of Apple’s privacy-focused services, an area the company has long used as a selling point for its products. For now, the case is still only a proposed class action, and the source report does not say whether Apple has responded in court.
