Moonshot AI has introduced Kimi K3, which the company says is the world’s largest open-source AI model. The new model packs 2.8 trillion parameters and is aimed at coding, science, and complex research workloads.
According to the company, Kimi K3 has roughly 75% more parameters than DeepSeek V4 Pro, which has about 1.6 trillion. It also includes a 1 million-token context window, built-in visual perception capabilities, and an always-on reasoning mode that Moonshot calls “thinking mode.”
Moonshot describes K3 as the first open-source model in the 3 trillion-parameter class, built for advanced intelligence use cases including long-horizon coding, knowledge work, and reasoning. The company also claims benchmark results show performance on par with leading proprietary systems from Anthropic and OpenAI.
