Google Search adds free AI image creation
Google will soon let Search users generate images inside AI Overviews for free, while Google Images gets a real-time desktop redesign in the US.

Google Search is about to do more than find images on the web. Over the coming weeks, Google says it will let users generate images directly inside AI Overviews when a standard image search does not return the result they want.
The feature turns a search query into a text prompt, then uses Google’s latest Nano Banana model to create an image without sending users to another tool or page. According to Google, the rollout will begin in English over the next few weeks, and it will be available in any region that already supports image creation in AI Mode.
“Sometimes, the perfect image is out there on the web, waiting to be found. But other times, you might have a highly specific vision where an image doesn’t yet exist. To help bring those unique ideas to life, we’re bringing image generation directly into AI Overviews in Search.”
Google is also refreshing Google Images, which is marking its 25th birthday. The desktop experience in the US, in English, will get a more dynamic gallery that updates images in real time and tailors results to a user’s interests.

Saved images are changing, too. Collections will now appear as tabs above the main gallery, making it easier to switch between bookmarked images and live search results.
That redesign is also rolling out over the coming weeks. To use it, people will need to sign in with their Google account.
