Hermès leather charging case costs $5,150 without power adapter

Hermès has unveiled a collection of lavish leather-wrapped wireless charging accessories for Apple devices, featuring a flagship $5,150 multi-device charger housed in the brand’s signature gold calfskin leather. This extravagant price tag dwarfs even entry-level Apple hardware, with the charger costing more than three times a 14-inch MacBook Pro’s starting price of $1,699. However, despite the hefty cost, the items notably exclude a power adapter, requiring users to supply their own to power the chargers.

The collection spans several models, including a $1,250 Hermès Paddock Solo, which is a wireless charging puck enveloped in calfskin leather with saddle stitching. Hermès does not explicitly state the charging speeds but recommends a minimum 20W power input, suggesting potential support for power delivery beyond 15W. Each charger comes with a 3.3-foot USB-C cable but omits the power brick entirely.

The lineup also includes the Paddock Yoyo, a $1,750 double-sided wireless charger capable of charging an Apple Watch or Qi-compatible devices when flipped, and the same-priced Paddock Duo, which can charge two devices simultaneously. These models can be paired with leather cases in varying sizes, culminating in the Grand Paddock, the most capacious, retailing at $5,150. All cases provide additional space to carry accessories such as cables and the necessary power adapter, which buyers must purchase separately.

Luxury brands excluding chargers or adapters from pricey tech accessories follow a growing trend aimed at reducing electronic waste, but with Hermès' prices, skipping an included power adapter feels more like cost-shifting than sustainability. While Apple famously did this years ago, customers of a $5,150 charging case might expect a more complete package. As wireless charging becomes mainstream, the Hermès take redefines exclusivity-but also raises questions about what buyers pay for when luxury meets essential tech gear.
