Next iPad mini may keep 60Hz OLED screen
A new leak says Apple’s next iPad mini could switch to an 8.4-inch OLED panel but still miss out on ProMotion and stay at 60Hz.

Apple’s next iPad mini may get an OLED upgrade without the smoother ProMotion display many buyers were hoping for. According to supply-chain leaker yeux1122, cited by MacRumors, the upcoming model is expected to use an 8.4-inch hybrid OLED panel with an LTPS back panel — but remain capped at a fixed 60Hz refresh rate.
If that report is accurate, Apple would improve image quality while leaving motion performance unchanged. The current iPad mini already uses a 60Hz LCD panel, so the shift to OLED should bring benefits such as higher contrast, but not the jump to up to 120Hz refresh rates that comes with ProMotion.
yeux1122 also says mass production is already underway at Samsung Display’s A2 Generation 5.5 line, adding to earlier rumors that Apple plans to release a new iPad mini later this year.
In a translated post, the leaker said:

“This is information about the Apple iPad mini AMOLED model. (Related industry source) iPad mini AMOLED expected release in the second half of the year. Mass production in progress on the A2 G5.5 line. Equipped with an 8.4-inch LTPS back panel hybrid OLED. 60 refresh rate confirmed.”
That points to a device with a better-looking screen, but one that may still feel familiar in everyday scrolling and animations for users waiting for a high-refresh iPad mini.
