Starlink has gone live in Ivory Coast, marking another step in SpaceX’s push across Africa. Elon Musk confirmed the launch by reposting a message from the official Starlink account showing an Africa coverage map with Ivory Coast highlighted as a newly served market.

The launch followed approval from the country’s authorities in June 2026, when Starlink received a 12-month license to provide fixed satellite internet services. The service is primarily aimed at areas without reliable terrestrial communications infrastructure.

According to the source, Starlink is expected to help bring internet access to rural regions, schools, and medical facilities. With the Ivory Coast rollout, the service is now available in 28 African countries.

Starlink’s arrival comes as Ivory Coast also begins a government-backed 5G rollout. The country started deploying fifth-generation mobile networks in June, with the initial phase focused on the largest cities before expanding gradually to other regions.

That creates a two-track connectivity buildout: 5G in urban centers, and low-latency, high-speed satellite internet in places where traditional network construction remains difficult or uneconomical.
