Threads adds parental controls for teen accounts

Meta is adding new parental control features to Threads, with Parental Supervision starting to roll out through Family Center next week.
The new tools give parents and guardians more visibility into how teenagers use the app. They can see how much time a teen spends on Threads, set time limits, and define sleep mode hours.
Meta also says guardians will be able to restrict which tags a teen can see and apply other limits across privacy and content settings. The company positions these controls as an addition to the built-in protections already applied to all teen accounts on Threads.

According to Engadget, adults will be able to access the feature as it reaches Meta’s Family Center hub next week.
The move fits into Meta’s broader effort to make its apps safer for younger users. Engadget notes that the company has recently introduced other teen-focused measures, including sharing the topics teens discuss with Meta AI with guardians and limiting repeated exposure to potentially harmful content on Instagram.
