Topping’s £119 DX1 II targets PS5 and Switch gamers

Topping has introduced the DX1 II, a compact desktop DAC that looks unusually well suited to gamers, especially anyone using a PS5 or Nintendo Switch. It has just been released in the UK through Electromod at £119 — about $160 or AU$240 — putting it below many desktop DAC rivals on price.

What makes the DX1 II stand out is a set of features that go beyond the usual audiophile pitch. It includes 3.5mm and 4.4mm headphone outputs, and both are two-way, so headsets with microphones are supported. It can also switch between USB Audio Classes, which matters because devices such as the PS5 and Nintendo Switch use UAC 1.0.

The rest of the specs make it more than a niche gaming accessory. The DX1 II supports input over USB-C and optical, and can output via optical, stereo RCA, 3.5mm, or 4.4mm. It also supports 32-bit/384kHz PCM and DSD 256, alongside EQ, filter, and gain settings.

Topping says the built-in amp can deliver up to 1,000mW, and the unit measures 10 x 10 x 3.2cm, making it small enough to slot into most desk setups. TechRadar notes that the glossy white finish should also fit neatly beside a PS5.
