X ships rebuilt Android app after year-long overhaul
X has rolled out its rebuilt Android app nearly a year after recruiting an “Android Dream Team,” with the focus on speed and reliability, not new features.

X has released its rebuilt Android app, nearly a year after the company began publicly recruiting engineers to remake it from the ground up.
In an August 2025 post on X, Head of Product Nikita Bier said he was assembling an “Android Dream Team” to “rebuild the X Android app”. The push followed months of user complaints about bugs and performance problems. Mashable points to one example: tapping tweet links from apps such as WhatsApp could send users to the main timeline instead of the intended post.
On July 20, Bier said the rebuild was finished, describing it as one of the largest engineering efforts in the company’s history. He said the new app is faster, smoother, and more reliable, and argued that the updated foundation should help X roll out future features more quickly.
An X spokesperson echoed that message in a statement to Mashable.

For now, users should not expect major visible changes. According to Mashable, the launch is primarily an infrastructure overhaul rather than a feature update.
The company says more noticeable additions are still ahead. The spokesperson said features Bier has mentioned on X — including support for hosting Spaces and better performance on older devices — are planned for future updates.
