Apple has refreshed its top-tier over-ear headphones with the release of AirPods Max 2, introducing smarter features and enhanced noise cancellation while maintaining the original design and price. The headphones now integrate the H2 chip in each earcup, a processor previously seen in AirPods Pro 3, enabling advanced capabilities such as Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, Live Translation, and improved Siri responsiveness for the first time on the Max lineup.

This upgrade builds on the original AirPods Max’s strengths with Active Noise Cancellation now up to 1.5 times more effective, using new computational algorithms that better eliminate ambient sounds like airplane engines and trains. Transparency mode also benefits from a refined digital signal processor, delivering a more natural sound experience when outside noise needs to be heard. Battery life remains at 20 hours per charge but now includes Bluetooth 5.3 for improved wireless connectivity.

Apple also enhanced the audio hardware with a high dynamic range amplifier, improving clarity across the spectrum. Spatial Audio has been tweaked for finer instrument localization, richer bass, and balanced mids and highs, appealing especially to podcasters, musicians, and content creators seeking high-fidelity sound and studio-grade recording capabilities. The AirPods Max 2 now offer features such as camera remote functionality and studio-quality recording support, signaling Apple’s push into professional use cases.

Continuing Apple’s environmental commitments, the new headphones incorporate 100% recycled rare earth magnets, recycled polyester in the ear cushions, and recycled gold plating and tin solder in the circuitry. Packaging is made from entirely recyclable fiber-based materials, aligning with Apple’s goal to reach carbon neutrality by 2030.
