BTS footage leaks Samsung’s wider Fold 8 early

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide may have just surfaced ahead of schedule. In footage from a BTS World Tour soundcheck stop in Paris, J-Hope appears to be using the unreleased foldable, giving fans an unofficial early look before Samsung’s July 22 Galaxy Unpacked event.

According to a report from 9to5Google’s Ben Schoon, clips circulating on X show the singer holding and filming with the device from both the front and back. The handset matches leaked renders of the wider version of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is expected to compete with the iPhone Ultra Fold later this year.

The video shows the phone in a purple finish, but never unfolded, so the inner display remains hidden. Samsung has a marketing partnership with BTS, and 9to5Google said the device was likely supplied to J-Hope through that relationship rather than as a deliberate teaser.

The naming may be messy. Mashable notes that the device is widely expected to launch as the Galaxy Z Fold 8, even though it reportedly is not the direct successor to last year’s Z Fold 7. That role is said to belong to a separate Z Fold 8 Ultra.

Based on Mashable’s roundup of leaks, the reported specs include:

• 5.5-inch external display
• 7.6-inch internal display
• Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset
• 12GB RAM
• 4,800mAh battery
• Cameras: 50MP wide, 50MP ultrawide, and dual 10MP selfie cameras

If accurate, that camera setup would be a step down from the Z Fold 7's 200MP main sensor.

Samsung is expected to unveil the device in London on July 22, alongside the Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and new smartwatches.
