Xiaomi 17 Fold and Pad 9 clear China certification

Xiaomi’s next two devices are nearing launch in China. The company’s upcoming Xiaomi 17 Fold and Xiaomi Pad 9 have appeared in new certification filings, a step that typically comes just before an official announcement.

For major Xiaomi releases in China, the pattern is familiar: certification databases appear first, then hardware leaks, and then retail listings. The article points to MIIT and 3C filings as one of the last public signs before a launch event.

The foldable phone, referred to in leaks as the Xiaomi 17 Fold and sometimes Mix Fold 5 or Mix Fold 6, showed up in the MIIT database under model number 2608BPX34C. According to the source, that model code may hint at an August launch in China, while an international debut could come later.

Leaked specs suggest Xiaomi is opting for a wider body instead of the narrower book-style design common in the category. Rumored hardware includes a 7.6-inch flexible inner display, Xiaomi’s Xring O3 chip, HyperOS 4 based on Android 17, a 200MP main camera, and a 6,000mAh battery with wireless charging.

The Xiaomi Pad 9 appeared in the 3C database under model number M656BA, alongside the MDY-17-EE 45W charger. That is not a standout charging speed for a tablet, but certification indicates the device has cleared another key pre-release milestone.

Leaks say Xiaomi is not dramatically changing the Pad 8 formula. Expected specs include an 11.2-inch 3K LCD at 144Hz, a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, and HyperOS 4 on Android 17. The battery is also rumored to increase to 9,720mAh, up from 9,200mAh on the Pad 8.

According to the report, the Pad 9 is expected to launch in China in September alongside the Xiaomi 18 series, followed by other markets including India.
