ChatGPT picked the Pixel 10, Claude chose iPhone 17
Android Authority asked ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini to name the best phone for most people. Two models split the vote, but only after Gemini changed its mind.

Buying advice is becoming another test for consumer chatbots, so Android Authority tried a simple prompt on ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini: pick the best smartphone for most people while weighing price, software support, performance, common usage, reviews, and sentiment.
The results were more sensible than expected, but not especially consistent. ChatGPT-5.5 chose the Google Pixel 10 outright, Claude Sonnet 4.6 picked the standard iPhone 17, and Gemini 3.5 Flash first recommended older phones before updating its answer for 2026 and eventually settling on the Pixel 10 after some pushback.
According to the article, ChatGPT gave the clearest case. It highlighted the Pixel 10's camera, software speed and support, and battery life, while also emphasizing that many buyers do not need extreme zoom cameras or oversized displays. It named the iPhone 17 Pro Max and base Galaxy S26 as honorable mentions, but argued the Pixel offered the best overall balance at a more reasonable price.
Claude took a different route, choosing the iPhone 17 for its lower price, strong software support, and solid performance. Android Authority noted that Claude appeared to lean heavily on published reviews. Its more surprising alternative pick was the OnePlus 15, which it praised for value despite the company’s retreat from the US market.

Gemini was the least steady. It initially suggested the Pixel 9 Pro XL and Galaxy S25, then switched to the iPhone 17, and finally moved to the Pixel 10 when asked to strip out the hype. It also stood out for recommending the Pixel 10a, arguing that 90% of what people do on phones comes down to web browsing, social media, and communication, making the $500 option enough for many buyers.
Android Authority’s takeaway was that these tools can be useful as a sounding board, but they still need supervision. Its own winner was ChatGPT, because its reasoning most closely matched the publication’s advice to mainstream buyers: the Pixel 10 may not be flashy, but it is a strong fit for most people.
