Hisense A10 pairs E Ink with a snap-on color screen

Hisense’s upcoming A10 uses a 6.13-inch E Ink display and an optional magnetic color LCD on the back, with reports pointing to Android 16 and 5G.

Hisense is preparing an unusual Android phone that combines a 6.13-inch E Ink touchscreen with an optional full-color LCD that snaps onto the back.

According to reports on X and Weibo, the upcoming Hisense A10 is built around a paper-like main display meant for reading and note-taking, much like ereaders such as the Kindle Scribe. The secondary screen is a magnetic detachable LCD mounted on the rear, designed for content that benefits from color, including photos, comics, charts and entertainment.

One notable twist: the add-on screen appears to be optional. Reports say Hisense may sell the main device on its own, letting buyers skip the color display entirely if they only want the black-and-white E Ink experience.

The phone is expected to support 5G and run Android 16. Good E Reader reports that it could use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and start at $590. If that pricing is accurate, it likely applies to the base handset without the detachable LCD, since the screen can reportedly be purchased separately.

This is not the first device to try the format. Bigme recently launched a crowdfunding campaign for the HiBreak Dual 2, another phone with an E Ink main screen and a color LCD on the back; its E Ink panel can be either black and white or colored.

The Hisense A10 is unlikely to launch in the US, but buyers may be able to import it through Chinese e-commerce channels if the dual-display setup is worth the extra effort.
