Google is giving its AI note-taking app a new name: NotebookLM is becoming Gemini Notebook. The change, announced on Thursday, keeps the product as a standalone app even as Google folds it more deeply into Gemini and Google Search.
Google first introduced the product in May 2023 as Project Tailwind before releasing it more broadly a few months later. Since then, the company has steadily expanded its features to help users organize and understand notes, including tools that turn material into AI podcasts, narrated slideshows, and TikTok-style clips.

Google recently began letting users connect their notebooks to the Gemini app, and it says notebooks will also come to AI Mode, the company’s chatbot-style experience in Search.
The rename arrives alongside an update Google announced last month. It lets Gemini Notebook connect to a secure cloud computer to write and execute code. According to Google, that feature is available now to Google AI Ultra and Workspace business customers, and it will reach Pro users on the web “over the coming weeks.”
