Google is expanding AI Mode in Search with app connectors that let users pull actions directly into results. At launch, Instacart, Canva, and YouTube Music are supported.
Google says the integrations are designed to help users “get more done” from Search. The current use cases are straightforward:
- Instacart: build a grocery list in AI Mode and add ingredients directly to an Instacart cart for ordering
- Canva: ask for flyer help and get Canva template options
- YouTube Music: curate a playlist in AI Mode and save it to YouTube Music
For now, those are the only apps that can be connected, though Google could add more later. The feature previously existed in Gemini, and is now expanding to Search.
App connections are limited to AI Mode in the United States, in English. Once an app is linked, the added features are available when making requests in Google Search AI Mode. Google says connected apps work in Search on desktop and in the Google Search iOS app.
Google also recommends turning on history and personalized recommendations to improve the Search experience. According to the company, it uses people’s interactions with Search and these new AI features to develop and improve its generative AI tools.
