Huawei’s Mate 90 lineup could become a pivotal release for the company’s mobile business, according to well-known Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station. The tipster says Huawei is still rebuilding its position, and that the real inflection point may come with its next flagship phones and new processors built around the “Tau Law” concept.

According to the report, if Huawei can fully resolve both performance issues and chip yield on its in-house system-on-chips, the company could shift its focus back to broadening its portfolio and even launch a more affordable sub-brand. That, Digital Chat Station suggests, would move Huawei closer to the position it held before sanctions were introduced.

Early details point to the hardware platform and cameras as the main focus of the Mate 90 series. Battery capacity is also expected to increase, but not dramatically; the leaker describes it as a routine generational update rather than a major leap.

The new phones are expected to use a next-generation Kirin SoC based on Logic Folding, a technology tied to the Tau Law concept. He Tingbo, head of Huawei’s semiconductor division, introduced the approach in May 2026. Huawei says it can significantly increase transistor density and improve energy efficiency without moving to a more advanced manufacturing node.

By Huawei’s figures, the new SoC delivers:

• 53.5% higher transistor density, reaching 238 million transistors per square millimeter
• 41% better energy efficiency for performance cores
• 12.7% higher peak frequency

The source notes that Digital Chat Station previously accurately revealed specs for the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro, and also reported that the Realme GT 7 Pro would use a bright Samsung display and that the Dimensity 9400 would arrive ahead of the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
