Samsung’s next Fold may get lighter and pricier

Samsung has confirmed a Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22, where it is widely expected to unveil its next foldables, including the rumored Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Samsung hasn’t officially named the device yet, but multiple certifications have reportedly used the “Z Fold 8 Ultra” branding.

That name matters because recent reports suggest Samsung could split its foldable lineup further. Alongside the Ultra, the company is also rumored to be preparing a separate “Wide Fold” model, while a standard Z Fold 8 name may go to a third foldable announced at the same event.

The Ultra is expected to stay close to the Z Fold 7 in overall size. Last year’s model had a 6.5-inch outer display and an 8-inch inner display. By contrast, the rumored Wide Fold would use a 5.4-inch outer screen and a 7.6-inch inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Reports cited by Mashable tie that wider design to Samsung’s expected competition with Apple, which is also rumored to be preparing a foldable iPhone for later this year.

A key question is whether Samsung can improve on the Z Fold 7, which measured 8.9mm folded and 4.2mm unfolded, and weighed 215g. One Korean report says the Z Fold 8 Ultra could drop to 200g, which would make an already thin foldable even easier to carry.

On specs, the same report says Samsung may increase the battery from 4,400mAh to 5,000mAh and support up to 45W charging. A Snapdragon chip is also expected, likely similar to the processors used in the Galaxy S26 line earlier this year.

The biggest hardware change may be on the back. The Z Fold 7 used a 200MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 10MP telephoto. According to Galaxy Club, Samsung could keep the 200MP main sensor while upgrading the ultrawide to 50MP and the telephoto to 12MP.

Pricing remains unclear. Samsung charged $1,999 for the Z Fold 7, itself a $100 increase over the prior model. There’s no firm leak yet for this year’s price, but with component costs rising, another increase would not be a surprise.
