iOS 27 beta points to a dual-battery foldable iPhone

Code in the iOS 27 beta appears to offer a fresh clue about Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone. In the Battery Health section, Apple has reportedly switched to plural wording, with system strings referring to “batteries” instead of a single “battery” and warning messages mentioning “one of the batteries” as well as non-genuine parts.

For a standard iPhone, that language would be unusual. For a foldable design with two battery cells split across different halves of the device, it makes much more sense. Competing foldables already use similar layouts. Samsung, for example, uses dual-section battery designs in its foldables to work around the hinge and distribute weight more effectively.

That lines up with earlier supply-chain reports cited by specialist publications, which have outlined more specific hardware details for the device currently referred to in leaks as the iPhone Ultra. Those reports mention:

That total battery capacity is below earlier talk of 5,400–5,800 mAh, but still broadly in line with large foldable phones already on the market. Leaks also suggest a telephoto camera may be left out because of thickness constraints and limited internal space.

The new iOS 27 strings add to a broader set of signs previously reported around support for multiple folding states, two displays, and interface behavior designed for a larger flexible screen. If the leaks are accurate, Apple is aiming straight at the premium foldables segment already occupied by Samsung and other device makers — with pricing that would put it near the very top of the market.
