Spotify has launched a conversational AI feature that lets Premium subscribers shape playback by speaking or typing directly in the app. The beta is rolling out to users 18 and older in the US, Ireland, and Sweden on iOS and Android.

Users can make requests such as “play some artists I haven’t heard before” and then refine the results with follow-ups like “add some Bad Bunny” or “make it more upbeat.” From the Now Playing view, they can also ask about an album’s inspiration, release date, or genre.

The tool goes beyond music. While listening to a podcast or audiobook, users can ask about the people, stories, and ideas behind the content. Because Spotify can draw on playlists, favorite artists, repeat listens, and full listening history, it can also answer personal questions such as “When did I first listen to this song?” or “What genres have I been into recently?”

Spotify has been adding AI-powered features for some time, including its AI DJ and playlist generation tools. This new interface is its broadest push yet toward turning Spotify into an app users can talk to, not just tap through.

Separately, Spotify is expanding managed accounts for children aged 13 and under to the free tier in the US, UK, Australia, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. The feature had previously been limited to Premium Family plans.

Managed accounts give children their own listening space while letting parents set boundaries. Explicit content is blocked by default, accounts are private and unsearchable, and video and Canvas visuals are disabled. Parents can also block specific tracks and artists.

The move comes as platforms face growing pressure over children’s online safety. Meta rolled out 13+ content settings globally across Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger in June, while the UK is preparing to ban under-16s from social media entirely. Spotify published the updates on July 15, 2026, at 4:52 pm UTC.
