Steam Deck LCD repairs just got tougher

iFixit says Steam Deck LCD batteries are out of stock, and OEM replacements may stop coming as Valve sunsets parts for the older model.

Repairing the original LCD Steam Deck may be getting harder. A Reddit post highlighted a customer support email from iFixit saying Steam Deck LCD batteries are out of stock, and that “it is looking less likely that we will continue receiving OEM Steam Deck LCD batteries.”

According to the report, cited by Tech PowerUp, an iFixit representative also said Valve is sunsetting parts for the original Steam Deck. That follows recent changes around Valve’s handheld lineup: the company has discontinued production of the LCD model and is maintaining only limited production of the newer OLED model.

The timing matters because the original LCD version has been one of the better values in handheld gaming — if buyers can still find one. But repairs could become more complicated if official parts dry up.

There is at least one workaround. As Tech PowerUp noted, third-party alternatives are available on platforms such as Amazon, which could help keep some repairs possible even if official OEM batteries become scarce.

The news adds to broader price pressure for gamers. Major console makers are raising prices, and some new handheld gaming consoles now cost as much as $1,500.
