VK is telling VKontakte users to start using vk.ru instead of vk.com as it completes a move to Russia’s national domain zone. Users received the notice on July 16, 2026.

According to the message, only the domain has changed. VKontakte’s features, apps, and design remain the same. VK said that, due to “technical nuances,” vk.ru is always available and opens and runs faster than vk.com.

RBC, citing VK’s press service, reported that the service is finishing its migration to the Russian domain and will in future support availability only in the .ru zone.

The move follows recent pressure on the company’s app distribution. Earlier, iXBT reported that the Max messenger, the VK app, and Odnoklassniki were removed from Google Play. Before that, on Monday, July 13, the European Union imposed sanctions on the VK holding company and the legal entity behind the Max messenger.
