AMD’s Ryzen 7 7700X3D nearly matches the 7800X3D

AMD has lifted the review embargo on the new Ryzen 7 7700X3D, a gaming-focused desktop CPU priced at $330. Based on early test results, it is effectively a Ryzen 7 7800X3D with lower clocks and a lower price.

That also means performance is very close to the higher-end model. In Full HD gaming, the 7700X3D is said to lag the 7800X3D by about 3–4% on average, a small enough gap that many buyers may not care. In applications, the picture is similar, though the difference grows to around 6–7%.

Where the new chip appears to pull ahead is efficiency. According to the published tests cited by iXBT, the 7700X3D runs noticeably cooler and uses less power, making it the most power-efficient processor among current mainstream desktop models and the most efficient relative to its performance.

That could make the Ryzen 7 7700X3D more appealing overall than the 7800X3D for buyers who want nearly the same gaming speed with lower power draw.
