Apple is in early settlement talks with the U.S. Department of Justice over the antitrust lawsuit the agency filed in 2024, according to Bloomberg. The report says Apple has already made several offers, though there is no guarantee the two sides will reach an agreement.
The DOJ sued Apple as part of a broader antitrust push aimed at major tech companies. In that case, the government accused Apple of keeping customers “hooked” on its platform through a long pattern of anti-competitive behavior.
The lawsuit specifically alleged that Apple:
- restricted super apps with broad capabilities
- limited cloud gaming
- favored its own Messages app over third-party apps
- reduced the functionality of third-party digital wallets and smartwatches
Since the complaint was filed in 2024, Apple has changed several policies that touch on many of those issues, a shift that MacRumors says has weakened the DOJ’s position. Apple also tried to get the case dismissed last year, but that effort failed.
So far, no trial date has been scheduled.
