Asus targets esports with a 420Hz ROG Strix monitor
Asus has launched the 24.5-inch ROG Strix XG259QNSR Ace, a Full HD esports monitor with up to 420Hz refresh and 0.3ms response time.

Asus has brought the ROG Strix XG259QNSR Ace to market as a monitor built squarely for esports. The pitch is simple: skip 4K and flashy HDR, and focus instead on refresh rate and response time. It uses a 24.5-inch Full HD panel with an overclocked refresh rate of up to 420Hz, clearly aimed at games like Counter-Strike 2 and Valorant, where milliseconds matter.
While much of the monitor market is pushing bigger screens and higher resolutions, Asus is leaning into a more traditional competitive setup. For esports titles, 1080p remains a practical standard because players typically prioritize the highest possible frame rates and the lowest possible input latency over image fidelity.
The monitor is built around a Fast IPS panel with a claimed response time of 0.3ms. Asus also includes ELMB Sync, allowing backlight strobing to work alongside adaptive sync technologies including G-Sync and FreeSync Premium. For fast-moving scenes, Variable Overdrive 2.0 adjusts pixel response as frame rates change.

Color performance is about what you would expect from a gaming IPS display. Asus lists 90% DCI-P3 and 115% sRGB coverage, along with VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification. That said, the source notes that buyers should not expect standout HDR performance from a standard edge-lit IPS panel.
Asus is also adding software features alongside the hardware. Its ROG Gaming AI package includes a dynamic crosshair that changes color depending on the background, plus Shadow Boost, which brightens dark areas without noticeably overexposing the rest of the scene. Settings can be managed through the DisplayWidget Center desktop app.
