A new American-made electric vehicle is aiming for a very different slice of the market. Chip Motors has unveiled a compact Life Utility Vehicle (LUV) starting at $15,000, with a six-seat version priced from $18,000 and first deliveries planned for 2027.

The startup says the EV uses an LFP battery for up to 100 miles of range, or roughly 160 km. Top speed is limited to 25 mph (about 40 km/h). It uses a NACS charging connector and can be plugged into either a standard 110 V household outlet or a 240 V supply.

The vehicle will be offered in four-seat and six-seat configurations. Buyers will be able to customize the body color, seats, roof, doors, and accessories through an online configurator. One of the more unusual options is a front cargo compartment with an integrated TV and speakers.

Chip Motors also says the car includes a vertical center display, plus cameras and radar for monitoring road conditions. The cabin is designed to be washed out with a hose, underscoring the utility-first pitch.

Another standout feature is Chip Go, a remote-operation service that would let an operator take control of the vehicle when needed, including for parking, delivery, or other tasks. The company says it eventually wants to develop the system into a full Level 4 autonomous driving platform.

Preorders require a refundable $250 deposit.
