iPhone 20 glass redesign said to be factory-ready
A Weibo leaker says Apple supply-chain facilities have finished renovations for the all-glass iPhone 20, expected in September 2027.

Apple’s supply chain is reportedly already preparing for the iPhone 20, with a Weibo leaker claiming facilities have finished renovations for a redesigned model expected in September 2027.
In a new Weibo post, the leaker “Fixed Focus Digital” said Apple’s preferred direction for the 20th-anniversary iPhone is a return to glass, with manufacturing quality expected to be roughly in line with the first-generation iPhone Air. The leaker added that the relevant manufacturing facility has “already been renovated” and is now waiting for machining to begin, but did not name the supplier.
One possible candidate is Lens Technology, which makes iPhone cover glass and previously took over metal-frame and glass-back assembly plants from Catcher Technology. The report appears to describe an early production-line retooling step rather than mass production.

That lines up with earlier reporting from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who said Apple is ramping up work on a 20th-anniversary redesign: a “mostly glass, curved iPhone without any cutouts in the display.” Gurman said the device could use curved glass wrapping around all sides and launch in September 2027.
Apple’s iPhone manufacturing schedule suggests this is still very early. For the iPhone 17, trial production began in June, with full-volume output targeted for August, about a month before its September release.
Fixed Focus Digital has also argued that aluminum remains the only practical material for near-term Pro models because of heat generated by on-device AI processing. In earlier posts, the leaker said a major materials shift was unlikely before 2027, and that aluminum mid-frames would remain in use for straight-edge phones for a long time, potentially leaving room for a different approach on the curved-edge iPhone 20.
The 20th-anniversary iPhone models are expected to arrive in fall 2027, after the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2 launch in the spring.
