Moscow has started training the first group of 60 drivers for the new Moscow-2026 trains that will run on the Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya metro line. According to Moscow Deputy Mayor Maksim Liksutov, the program is based at the Solntsevo electric depot and will run for 45 days.

A dedicated training train is being used for the course. Drivers first practice train handling and familiarize themselves with the new rolling stock, then move on to real-world work on the line. The approach is standard for new metro branches, where crews are prepared in advance so service can begin without staffing shortages.

The Moscow-2026 train was presented as a model built with domestic components. Its listed features include adaptive lighting, wide doors, USB and Type-C ports, and walk-through passageways between cars. According to the announcement, maximum capacity has increased by 10%, while door width is up by 32%.

The Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya line will open in stages. The first section, covering five stations, is planned to launch in 2026. The full 28-kilometer branch to Krasnogorsk is scheduled for 2027. Before that happens, metro officials will test infrastructure, run trial operations, and only then put the new trains and newly trained drivers into regular service.
