Oppo Reno 16 adds IP69K and a bigger battery

Oppo’s new Reno 16 keeps the 6.32-inch 120Hz AMOLED formula but trades extra weight for a larger battery and IP69K protection.

Oppo has positioned the Reno 16 in the compact premium smartphone segment, putting it directly alongside the Reno 15 Pro Mini. On paper, the two devices look very similar, but they prioritize different things: one is lighter and easier to handle, while the other focuses on battery life and tougher body protection.

That trade-off is common in compact phones. Samsung, Xiaomi, and vivo have all tried to fit high-end hardware into smaller bodies, and something usually has to give. Oppo’s approach makes that especially clear here.

Both phones feature a 6.32-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, but the overlap largely ends there. The Reno 15 Pro Mini is lighter and thinner, with a weight of about 187g. The Reno 16 comes in at around 193g, and those extra grams appear to go toward a larger battery.

Both smartphones also use a metal frame and offer IP69 dust and water resistance. The newer model, however, is additionally listed with IP69K certification.

In practical terms, the Reno 15 Pro Mini looks like the better fit for buyers who want the lightest possible compact phone without noticeable heft in a pocket. The Reno 16 is the more interesting option for people who care more about endurance and stronger chassis protection.
