Samsung launches robotics unit under ex-Hyundai exec
Samsung has created a new RX robotics division led by former Hyundai strategist Dongkun Lee, with CEO TM Roh overseeing the effort.

Samsung has set up a new division called RX, short for Robotics eXperience, to consolidate its robotics work as it pushes deeper into physical AI.
The company’s robotics strategy will be led by Dongkun Lee, who joined Samsung in May as an Executive Vice President. Before that, Lee headed Hyundai’s robotics strategy, including work tied to Boston Dynamics. Samsung CEO TM Roh will directly oversee the new unit.
According to Reuters, RX will be based at Samsung’s facilities in Seoul, South Korea, but the company also plans to establish robotics research hubs in the US, China and Japan to draw on local expertise.

The move puts Samsung alongside other big tech companies that are ramping up work on robotics and physical AI. Hyundai recently bought the rest of Boston Dynamics for that reason. In February, an Alphabet robotics company focused on manufacturing was folded into Google. OpenAI is also developing a series of devices intended as the physical expression of ChatGPT, with the first reportedly expected to be a speaker.
According to Korea JoongAng Daily, Samsung plans to begin manufacturing humanoid robots sometime this year. Roh had previously said the company would invest 19 trillion Korean won ($13 billion) to build manufacturing facilities at its Gumi, Korea site for humanoid robot production, CNBC reported.
