Spotify is launching Talk to Spotify, a new beta feature that lets Premium subscribers speak or type natural-language requests about music, podcasts, and audiobooks.
The company said eligible users will see new ways to interact with Spotify across Home and the Now Playing view on mobile. The in-app assistant uses a listener’s history along with broader knowledge of artists, albums, songs, podcasts, and audiobooks.
Spotify says users can ask for playback changes, recommendations, and background information. The examples it provided include:
- “Play some artists I haven’t heard before”
- “What is the inspiration behind Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism?”
- “When did I first listen to this song?”
- “What genres have I been into recently?”
- “What other books has this author written?”
- “What other podcasts has this guest been on?”
According to Spotify, the feature also keeps context across follow-up requests. A user could ask for new artists, then refine the results with prompts such as “Add some Bad Bunny,” “just his recent stuff,” or “make it more upbeat.” It can also handle actions like saving a song, adding a track to the queue, or following an artist.
The rollout starts today in beta for Premium users 18+ in the U.S., Ireland, and Sweden on iOS and Android, with support in English. Spotify said the release will be gradual and that user feedback will help shape how useful the feature becomes.
