Wistron opens $700M Texas plant for Nvidia GB300 chips

Wistron has opened a $700 million factory in Fort Worth, Texas, now assembling Nvidia’s GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra superchips.

Wistron has opened its first US factory, a $700 million site in Fort Worth, Texas, and it is already assembling Nvidia’s GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra superchips. The plant held its grand opening on 21 July, and Nvidia says it is the first location in the US to build and mass-produce the GB300.

The factory marks a tangible step in the broader push to bring advanced chip manufacturing to the US. In 2025, Nvidia pledged $500 billion toward American manufacturing and infrastructure over four years, and suppliers have increasingly followed that investment to Texas. Wistron’s new facility is one of the clearest results so far: an operating plant, not just a planned project.

The site spans about 324,000 square feet (30,100 square meters) and, according to Nvidia, is expected to scale to tens of thousands of computing boards per month. The Fort Worth plant will also eventually produce Vera Rubin superchips, the successor to Blackwell.

Wistron says the factory — branded the D1 Smart Factory — has already created more than 500 jobs across construction, plumbing, electrical, and manufacturing roles. That workforce is expected to reach 1,000 by the end of the year.

Lin said speed is a defining pressure for the business right now.

He also described Fort Worth as central to Wistron’s near-term US plans.

How the factory was designed

Before construction began, Wistron modeled the entire plant as a digital twin using Nvidia Omniverse software, testing layouts and workflows virtually before building the real facility.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang underscored the scale of the hardware being made there, describing a single GB300 system as containing “one-and-a-half million parts inside, two tons, 4 million dollars.”

Texas ramps up as an AI infrastructure hub

Investors reacted quickly: Wistron’s shares surged in Taiwan after the opening. The move also highlights how the AI boom is benefiting not just chip designers, but contract manufacturers and suppliers further down the stack.

Fort Worth is becoming a focal point for that expansion. The city and the broader state have attracted a series of AI infrastructure projects, including an $810 million data center bond raise nearby, helped by relatively cheap land and power. At the same time, demand is tightening the market for the high-bandwidth memory used in Grace Blackwell systems.

Next comes the harder part: ramping output through the rest of 2026, growing the workforce to 1,000, and then retooling the plant for Vera Rubin while production is still scaling.
