Apple has reportedly significantly increased its total orders for vapor chambers, a move that could expand the cooling system’s role across upcoming iPhones.
According to leaker Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo, the higher orders are “possibly in preparation for enhanced cooling in its first foldable iPhone and the next-generation 20th-anniversary model.” Apple introduced vapor chamber cooling with the iPhone 17 Pro, aiming to address thermal issues seen in earlier models.
Vapor chambers spread heat by evaporating a small amount of liquid near a heat source, then condensing it in cooler areas before cycling the liquid back through the system. The report ties Apple’s latest order increase to the rumored iPhone Ultra and a 2027 anniversary iPhone, but the timing may point to nearer-term devices as well.
Apple has reportedly asked suppliers to prepare around 10 million foldable iPhones, up from an earlier target of 7–8 million, along with roughly 70 million iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max units. The source suggests all three models are likely to use vapor chamber cooling.

The increase also follows reports that Apple has solved earlier hinge and manufacturing-yield issues, potentially clearing the way for higher production ahead of a September debut.
