BYD pushes Great Han to 1,008 km with 102.3 kWh LFP pack

BYD has fitted the Great Han with a 102.3 kWh LFP battery and claims up to 1,008 km of CLTC range, with pricing around $44,000 in China.

BYD has launched a larger FinDreams lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for the new Great Han, giving the sedan a claimed up to 1,008 km of range on the CLTC cycle. The trade-off is weight: according to the source, the battery weighs 725.9 kg, making the car notably heavier than the standard version.

That makes the Great Han a clear example of a broader EV trend. Instead of relying on exotic battery chemistry, manufacturers are increasingly extending range by fitting bigger packs. In this case, the 102.3 kWh battery is reserved for higher-spec versions of the BYD Great Han.

The rear-wheel-drive model uses a single 370 kW motor, equal to 496 hp, and is rated for 970–1008 km of CLTC range. Kerb weight comes in at 2260–2325 kg. The all-wheel-drive version is more powerful but less efficient: its two motors produce up to 570 kW, or 764 hp, while range drops to 820–880 km.

  • Battery capacity: 102.3 kWh

  • RWD power: 370 kW / 496 hp
  • AWD power: 570 kW / 764 hp
  • RWD range: 970–1008 km CLTC
  • AWD range: 820–880 km CLTC
  • Dimensions: 5256 x 1999 x 1510 mm
  • Wheelbase: 3130 mm

The sedan has also grown in size, measuring 5256 mm long, 1999 mm wide, and 1510 mm tall, with a 3130 mm wheelbase. BYD specifically notes that it is 66 mm longer than a standard Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

The company’s strategy looks different from some rivals. Where the Tesla Model S Plaid and Xiaomi SU7 Max lean on performance and software, and the Mercedes EQS emphasizes premium positioning, BYD is focusing on a mix of price, size, and range. In China, where EV demand already runs into the millions of units a year according to industry estimates, long driving range remains one of the strongest selling points.

The new-battery Great Han is priced at about $44,000 in China. If BYD can hold that figure, it would put a large electric sedan with a 100 kWh-class battery into a segment that competes with far more expensive models.
