iOS 27 beta 4 points to iPhone with dual batteries

Apple’s iOS 27 beta 4 appears to include one of the clearest software hints yet about a new iPhone model with two internal batteries.

According to Macworld, the latest beta contains code strings that explicitly refer to a multi-battery iPhone alongside existing references to single-battery models. Filipe Espósito reported that one string says, “The batteries in this iPhone are performing as expected,” while another says that “the health of the batteries in this iPhone has significantly degraded.”

The discovery lines up with an earlier claim from Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station, who said this month that Apple’s upcoming iPhone Ultra will include two separate internal batteries. That setup is common in foldable phones, but it would be a first for the iPhone.

This is not the first clue tied to the iPhone Ultra. Previous iOS 27 code leaks have pointed to a foldable iPhone and a device with multiple displays. The new battery-related strings add to that trail.

A regulatory filing cited in the report says the two batteries would have capacities of 1,921mAh and 2,962mAh, for a combined total of 4,883mAh. Taken together, the software references and filing support earlier reports that the iPhone Ultra is expected to be unveiled in early September.
