Russian Diesel Makers Replace Bosch With Local Common Rail
YaMZ and YaZDA have started producing a full Common Rail fuel system for diesel engines, targeting a gap once filled by Bosch and other foreign suppliers.

YaMZ and YaZDA have started producing a full Common Rail fuel equipment package for diesel engines, aiming to replace systems previously supplied by Bosch and other foreign vendors.
The move matters because modern serial diesel engines for trucks, special equipment, and industrial machines are much harder to build without a domestic injection system. This is not just about localizing a single part. The Yaroslavl-based companies say they are assembling the full chain in Russia: a high-pressure fuel pump, injectors, rail, electronic control unit, and software.
For diesel engines, fuel equipment is one of the most sensitive subsystems. It determines whether an engine can meet modern emissions standards and whether it will run reliably on varying fuel quality. Common Rail has long been the baseline technology for new diesel engines across the industry, with system pressure measured in the thousands of bar.

Work on in-house diesel components in Yaroslavl did not start recently. Back in 2016, YaZDA began serial production of Common Rail pumps for the YaMZ-530 family. At that stage, though, the rest of the system still had to come from outside suppliers.

Now the companies say they can develop and manufacture all major parts of the fuel system within a single partnership. That reduces import dependence and gives them more room to tune the system for specific engines, especially in operating conditions they describe as harsher than in Europe, with different fuel, duty cycles, and loads.
The first major user of the new system will be the YaMZ-770 family. These are inline six-cylinder diesel engines with a displacement of 12.42 liters, output from 350 to 620 hp, and torque up to 2550 N·m. They will use electronically controlled Common Rail injection at pressures up to 2200 bar. Serial production of the engines is planned to begin before the end of 2026.
Next, the companies plan to localize fuel equipment for the four-cylinder YaMZ-336, aimed at construction, municipal, and special-purpose machinery, where compact size, service life, and repairability are especially important.
The project is backed by the Industrial Development Fund. YaZDA received preferential financing to organize production of high-pressure fuel pumps for Euro-5 and Euro-6 systems. Total investment exceeds 479 million rubles, and the company expects to create hundreds of jobs.
