Edifier has launched its R1000TC II bookshelf speakers in China at 399 yuan — about $58 — and the feature set is unusually strong for budget desktop audio. The new model is aimed at desks and small rooms, offering 42W of continuous power, Bluetooth 6.0, direct USB connection to a PC, and control through the Edifier Connect app.

This is a standard active 2.0 speaker system, but the hardware is more ambitious than the price suggests. The cabinets use MDF to reduce unwanted resonance, with a black front panel featuring a leather-like texture and wood-style side panels. The main speaker measures 149 × 234 × 202.5 mm, while the right speaker carries physical controls for volume, treble, and bass. The front grilles are removable.

  • 1-inch silk-dome tweeters
  • 4-inch paper-cone mid-bass drivers
  • Class D amplifier, 21W per channel
  • 42W total continuous output
  • Frequency response from 65 Hz to 20 kHz
  • Bluetooth 6.0 with simultaneous connection to two devices
  • RCA inputs and a USB sound card mode for direct PC connection

Inside, the speakers use a two-way design. High frequencies are handled by 1-inch tweeters with a 19-strand silk dome diaphragm, while mids and bass come from 4-inch drivers with a composite paper cone and reinforcing rings to help control vibration. A low-end limit of 65 Hz is about what you would expect from speakers this size: these are built for music, video, and gaming at a desk, not as a substitute for floorstanding speakers.

Connectivity and app features

The biggest upgrades in this second-generation model are on connectivity. Alongside standard RCA, Edifier has added Bluetooth 6.0 and a USB audio card mode, letting users connect the speakers straight to a computer without a separate DAC. For laptops with only a typical 3.5mm output, that makes the setup notably more convenient and pushes the R1000TC II closer to pricier desktop models such as the Edifier MR4 and R1280DB.

The speakers also support the Edifier Connect app. From a smartphone, users can pick preset EQ profiles, adjust channel balance, disable system sounds, and install firmware updates. That kind of software support is becoming common even in lower-cost audio gear, and Bluetooth 6.0 — introduced by the Bluetooth SIG in 2024 — is now starting to appear in more affordable products.

In China, the R1000TC II will face competition from other Edifier models as well as compact computer speakers from Creative, Microlab, and Asus. If the 399 yuan price holds after launch, it looks like a solid option for buyers who want a simple 2.0 setup without a subwoofer, but with both proper wired PC connectivity and straightforward wireless pairing.
