Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is shaping up as a more refined successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 than a radical rethink of Samsung’s foldable design. While the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to carry the wider-screen experiment, the Ultra model could keep the familiar tall, narrow book-style form factor aimed at existing Fold users.

According to the report, Samsung is expected to unveil the phone at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22, 2026, in London, with sales likely starting on or around August 5, 2026. Pricing may rise as well: rumors point to a €2,199 starting price in Europe for the 256GB model, which would translate historically to around $2,099 to $2,199 in the US — roughly $100 to $200 more than before.

The leaked specs paint a clear picture:

  • 6.5-inch outer Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 2520×1080, 120Hz
  • 8-inch inner Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 2504×2256, 120Hz
  • 4.1mm unfolded thickness
  • 218g weight
  • IP48 protection
  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy
  • 12GB RAM with 256GB/512GB, 16GB RAM with 1TB
  • 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide, 10MP 3x telephoto
  • 5,000mAh battery
  • 45W wired charging

Design and display upgrades

The hardware changes may be subtle from the outside. The Fold 8 Ultra is said to measure 4.1mm when unfolded, slightly thinner than the 4.2mm Fold 7, while keeping the same IP48 dust and water resistance. Reported colors include Cream, Graphite, Green Shadow, and Violet Shadow.

More interesting is the inner panel. Samsung has confirmed Flex Titanium, which reportedly uses a titanium alloy film and a titanium plate around the hinge to improve durability and reduce crease visibility.

Per Tom’s Guide, the Fold 8 series display was tested to withstand 500,000 folds at room temperature. Company representatives also said the crease is much less visible than on earlier models.

The biggest screen upgrade appears to be on the inside. Samsung is said to have increased the inner display resolution from 2184×1968 on the Fold 7 to 2504×2256 on the Fold 8 Ultra, while the 6.5-inch cover display may stay at 2520×1080. Both screens are expected to use Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panels with a 1Hz to 120Hz refresh rate.

A recent Android Headlines report also claims peak brightness could reach 3,600 nits, up from 2,600 nits on the Fold 7 and S26 Ultra. Rumors that Samsung would bring the Privacy Display technology from the S26 Ultra were denied by leaker Ice Universe in June 2026.

Cameras, software, and battery

Performance should be firmly flagship-level. The Fold 8 Ultra is reportedly getting the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy expected in the S26 Ultra, with slightly overclocked prime cores at 4.74GHz instead of 4.6GHz. Memory and storage are also said to scale by tier, with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.

On software, the device is expected to ship with One UI 9 based on Android 17, along with Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite, including Live Translate, Note Assist, Transcript Assist, and Generative Edit. Samsung is also likely to continue its seven years of OS and security updates.

Camera hardware may remain close to the Fold 7, with a 200MP f/1.7 main sensor, 10MP f/2.4 telephoto, and a 50MP f/1.9 ultrawide that could match the one used in the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Both the inner and outer selfie cameras are tipped at 10MP f/2.2.

Samsung recently said the Fold 8 Ultra could get S26 Ultra-inspired camera features, including improved low-light performance, video LUT support in the stock camera app, and built-in dual recording from the front and rear cameras.

Battery life could be one of the most meaningful upgrades. The phone is expected to move from the Fold 7's 4,400mAh battery to 5,000mAh, paired with the efficiency gains from Qualcomm’s latest chip.
