Samsung has started rolling out the July One UI 8.5 update to the entire Galaxy S24 family. The firmware appeared first on devices in South Korea and is expected to expand to Europe and other regions next.

This is not a major redesign. Instead, Samsung describes the release as a service update focused on security, system optimizations, bug fixes, and closing critical vulnerabilities. The rollout was flagged by insider Tarun Vats.

For the Galaxy S24 Ultra in Korea, Vats listed the following build numbers:

  • S928NKSS6DZG1
  • S928NOKR6DZG1
  • S928NKSS6DZE1

The update applies to the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra, the series Samsung introduced on January 17, 2024. As usual for Samsung, software releases do not hit every market at once: the company typically starts in its home market, then expands to parts of Asia, followed by Europe and other regions.

That rollout pattern matters more for the S24 lineup because of Samsung’s unusually long support promise. At launch, the company said the phones would get seven generations of Android updates and seven years of security patches. In Android, only Google with the Pixel 8 and newer models offers a similar timeline, while many rivals still top out at four or five years.

If Samsung sticks to its usual pace, the wider rollout should take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on the country and carrier.
